Just like the Orange Bowl last season, this year’s Cotton Bowl has been moved up to a Friday night timeslot. In other news, NBCSN will air another Notre Dame game this season, and IndyCar is pursuing a single broadcast partner in its new television contract.
Cotton Bowl Moved Up
- This year’s Cotton Bowl has been moved up a day to Friday, December 29 and will air in primetime, it was announced today. The game was originally scheduled to air during the afternoon on December 30 as part of a “New Year’s Six” tripleheader. Last year’s Orange Bowl was also moved up from Saturday afternoon to Friday night. (Cotton Bowl 3.3)
NBCSN Gets Another Notre Dame Game
- NBCSN will televise a Notre Dame football game for just the second time this upcoming season, airing the team’s September 30 matchup with Miami (OH). The game will have a later-than-usual start time of 5 PM ET. NBCSN previously aired a Boston College-Notre Dame Shamrock Series game in 2015. With the September 30 game on NBCSN, Notre Dame will go six weeks — from September 9 against Georgia through October 21 against USC — without a game on the NBC broadcast network. IndyCar Looking At Single Broadcast Partner
- IndyCar CEO Mark Miles told Racer in a recent interview that the series would “most likely” opt for a single broadcast partner once its current television deals with NBC Sports and ESPN/ABC expire at the end of next season, but that negotiations have not yet begun, “anything’s possible,” and “we are talking to everybody.” In the interview, Miles said he would prefer a single partner only if such an arrangement included more over-the-air coverage than under the current contract.
