The fifth season of ESPN’s Monday Night Football got off to a good start in the overnights.
ESPN drew a 10.5 overnight rating for Ravens/Jets on Monday night, up 6% from Bills/Patriots in the early window last year (9.9) and up 24% from Vikings/Packers in 2008 (8.5).
The 10.5 overnight is the largest of the year for any program on ESPN, topping the previous high of 7.9 for the January 31 Pro Bowl.
Later Monday, Chargers/Chiefs drew a 9.1 overnight, up 8% from Chargers/Raiders last year (8.4) and up 30% from Broncos/Raiders in 2008 (7.0).
Despite starting after 10 PM ET, Chargers/Chiefs managed to avoid being the lowest rated telecast of Week 1, edging Sunday’s early window on FOX (9.0).
