In its first outing of the season, CBS’ The NFL Today topped its chief pregame rival.
Last Sunday’s edition of The NFL Today drew a 3.6 final rating on CBS, up 38% from Week 1 last year (2.6) and up 16% from Week 1 in 2008 (3.1).
This marks the highest rated Week 1 edition of The NFL Today since CBS resumed NFL coverage in 1998.
The NFL Today topped FOX NFL Sunday by 20% head-to-head (3.6 to 3.0) and ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown by 71% (3.6 to 2.1).
The victory over FOX NFL Sunday is a complete reversal from the overnights released earlier this week, which had the FOX pregame outdrawing its CBS counterpart by 17% (3.4 to 2.9).
