With little drama left in their series against the Twins, the Yankees’ Game 3 clincher drew the lowest rating for a playoff game involving the team in several years.
The Yankees’ series-clinching Game 3 win over the Twins drew a 3.0 U.S. rating and 4.810 million viewers on TBS Saturday night, down 6% and 8%, respectively, from the comparable game in 2008 (CHC/LAD G3: 3.2, 5.224 mil).
There was no comparable game last year, as Phillies/Rockies Game 3 was postponed.
Last year’s Yankees/Twins Game 3, also a series-clincher, drew a 4.1 and 6.791 million viewers on a Sunday night.
The 3.0 rating is the lowest for any MLB playoff game involving the Yankees since 2006 (DET/NYY G2: 2.2). The 2006 game was originally scheduled to air in primetime, but was postponed to the next afternoon due to rain.
Excluding rescheduled games, this marks the lowest rated Yankee playoff game since 2003 (NYY/MIN G4: 2.8), and the lowest rated Yankee primetime playoff game since at least 2001 (game-by-game ratings were unavailable prior to 2002).
Though low by Yankee standards, Saturday’s game was the highest rated, most-viewed Division Series game of the weekend.
Following a strong start for Game 1 (4.3, 6.914 mil), ratings dropped from game to game for the Yankees/Twins series.
