The first deciding game of the Division Series since 2005 earned strong numbers for TBS, but trailed previous winner-take-all matchups.
The Rangers’ Game 5 win over the Rays drew a 4.1 U.S. rating and 6.410 million viewers on TBS Tuesday night, easily the highest rated, most-viewed game of the series.
The previous high mark for the series was a 2.2 and 3.513 million for Saturday’s Game 3. Games 1, 2 and 4 each drew less than a 2.0 rating and fewer than three million viewers.
Rangers/Rays was the first Game 5 in the Division Series since Yankees/Angels in 2005, which drew a substantially higher 8.9 rating and 13.699 million viewers on FOX.
This marks the lowest rated Game 5 since Twins/Athletics in 2002 (2.4). That game aired on a Sunday afternoon on ABC Family. Keep in mind Rangers/Rays is the only Game 5 to air on cable since that ’02 game.
Game 5 ranks as the second-highest rated, second-most viewed game of the postseason, trailing only Yankees/Twins Game 1 last Wednesday (4.3, 6.914 mil).
