Ratings would likely have hit a low anyway, given the recent trend, but rain and an early morning finish sank NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600.
NASCAR Cup Series racing from Charlotte earned a 2.8 overnight rating on FOX Sunday night, down 13% from last year (3.2), down 22% from 2015 (3.6) and the lowest overnight for the race since it moved to FOX in 2001 (including rainouts).
Austin Dillon‘s win was the fourth straight Coca-Cola 600 to hit a low in the metered markets. Contributing to this year’s low was a 100-minute rain delay in the heart of primetime that pushed the finish past Midnight ET.
Overnights have now declined for all-but-two Cup Series races this season, the Daytona 500 (+7%) and Texas (flat).
Sunday’s race trailed the day’s Indianapolis 500 by 29%, the largest gap between the two events — in the metered markets — since 2005.
