The second-best team in the nation, according to the BCS rankings, tied the second-best college football overnight of the season.
BCS #2 Auburn’s win over Georgia drew a 5.4 overnight rating on CBS Saturday afternoon, up 15% from last year (FLA/SC: 4.7), and down a tick from 2008 (ALA/LSU: 5.5).
The 5.4 overnight is tied as the highest of the season for a college football telecast on broadcast, joining Alabama/Arkansas on CBS September 25 and Saturday Night Football on ABC October 30*.
Overall, the 5.4 is tied as the second-highest of the college football season, behind only Boise State/Virginia Tech on ESPN Labor Day (6.8).
Earlier in the day, Mississippi/Tennessee drew a considerably less impressive 1.8 overnight — down 25% from the same matchup on the comparable date last year (TEN/MISS: 2.4).
* According to CBS, the October 30 edition of Saturday Night Football drew a 5.4 overnight. Previous reports from Sports Business Daily and ESPN PR representatives had the game drawing a 5.3.
