ESPN is devoting significant coverage to O.J. Simpson‘s parole hearing this week. In other news, Mike & Mike in the Morning will end by Thanksgiving, and Sports Illustrated may deliver even fewer issues next year.
Yet More O.J.
- ESPN will air live coverage of former NFL RB O.J. Simpson‘s parole hearing on Thursday, airing the proceeding during a 90-minute Outside the Lines special. Jeremy Schaap will host in ESPN’s Bristol studios, while Mark Schwarz and Shelley Smith will report from Nevada, where Simpson is currently serving a 33-year sentence for armed robbery. Later in the day, the network will also carry a one-hour SportsCenter special on Simpson anchored by Hannah Storm. [SI.com 7.17]
Mikes Have End Date
- ESPN’s Mike & Mike in the Morning will sign off for good on November 17, with ESPN launching replacement program Golic & Wingo on November 27. Mike Greenberg, who had co-hosted Mike & Mike with Mike Golic since it debuted in 2000, is departing to anchor a new morning show on ESPN starting January 1. Trey Wingo was named his replacement at ESPN’s May upfront. In a preview of their new partnership, Wingo and Golic will host Mike & Mike together Tuesday through Thursday of this week. [ESPN PR 7.17]
Fewer SI Issues
- Sports Illustrated is expected to reduce its number of issues to as few as 24 next year, according to Yahoo!, down from 51 two years ago and 38 this year. SI has faced many of the same troubles afflicting other media outlets, cutting a handful of writers earlier this year. [Yahoo! via Awful Announcing 7.14]
