Move From Cable to Broadcast Boosts NASCAR Trucks, Xfinity
- NASCAR Truck Series racing from Pocono (Pa.) earned 881,000 viewers on FOX last Saturday afternoon, up 14% from last year (775K) and up 13% from 2015 (782K), both of which aired on Fox Sports 1. The 0.6 rating increased a tick from both last year and 2015. Later in the day, the Xfinity Series race from Iowa posted a 1.1 rating and 1.7 million viewers on NBC — up 83% in ratings and 58% in viewership from last year (0.6, 1.1M) and up 57% and 60% respectively from 2015 (0.7, 1.0M), both of which aired on NBCSN.
IndyCar Mid-Ohio Viewership Down on NBCSN, CNBC
- Airing immediately after the NASCAR Cup Series, tape-delayed IndyCar Series racing from Mid-Ohio delivered a 0.39 rating and 576,000 viewers on NBCSN Sunday evening — down 29% in ratings and viewership from live coverage last year (0.55, 811K) and down 7% and 14% respectively from taped coverage in 2015 (0.42, 666K). Live coverage on CNBC had 200,000 viewers, down 2% from last year (202K) but up 16% from 2015 (172K).
F1 Up, NHRA Down, Last Sunday
- Last Sunday’s Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix delivered a 0.35 final rating and 508,000 viewers on NBCSN, up 13% in ratings and 6% in viewership from last year (0.31, 477K). Compared to 2015, when it aired on CNBC, viewership jumped an even-higher 46% from 349,000. In other action, NHRA eliminations from Sonoma (Ca.) pulled a 0.23 and 363,000 on FS1 opposite the NASCAR Cup Series — down 65% and 64% respectively from last year, when it aired on FOX (0.65, 998K).
