ABC had declines in both ratings and viewership for college football coverage during the 2010 season.
College football coverage averaged a 3.5 rating and 5.578 million viewers on ABC during the 2010 season (30 telecasts), down 10% in ratings and 9% in viewership from last year (3.9, 6.105 mil, 31 telecasts), and down 13% and 11%, respectively, from 2008 (4.0, 6.274 mil, 33 telecasts).
The network ended its regular season coverage with a tripleheader last Saturday.
The first game, West Virginia/Rutgers, drew a 1.8 final rating and 2.515 million viewers — down 62% in ratings and 63% in viewership from the same timeslot last year (CIN/PIT: 4.7, 6.741 mil).
The 1.8 rating ranks as the second-lowest of the season for college football on ABC, ahead of only Colorado/Nebraska on Black Friday (1.7).
In the middle game, BCS #2 Oregon’s win over Oregon State drew a 4.2 and 6.615 million viewers, up 91% and 108%, respectively, from last year (AZ/USC: 2.2, 3.180 mil).
The telecast had the biggest increase in ratings for any college football game on ABC this season.
Finally, as reported earlier, the primetime Big 12 Championship Game drew a 5.3 and 8.981 million viewers — down 29% in ratings and viewership from last year (TEX/NEB: 7.5, 12.693 mil).
Oklahoma’s win over Nebraska finished as the fifth-lowest rated Big 12 Championship Game ever.
