ABC drew a 5.3 final rating and 8.981 million viewers for Saturday’s Oklahoma/Nebraska Big 12 Championship Game, down 29% in ratings and viewership from last year’s game (TEX/NEB: 7.5, 12.693 mil), and down 4% and up 3%, respectively, from 2008 (OU/MIZZ: 5.5, 8.762 mil).
Oklahoma’s win ranks as the lowest rated Big 12 Championship Game since 2006 (OU/NEB: 4.2), and the fifth-lowest rated Big 12 title game of all time (15 telecasts).
Despite the lower numbers, Saturday’s game crushed the ACC Championship Game on ESPN head-to-head (VT/FSU: 1.8, 3.047 mil), and ranked as the top game of the day on ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC.
Final ratings/viewership for the SEC Championship Game on CBS were not immediately available.
The game also ranked as easily the highest rated, most-viewed telecast of the night on broadcast, topping typically lackluster Saturday night fare on the other networks.
