If Game 1 overnights are any indication, Astros-Dodgers World Series ratings should hold up pretty well for FOX.
Tuesday’s Astros-Dodgers World Series Game 1 delivered a 10.2 overnight rating on FOX, down 19% from Cubs-Indians last year (12.6) and down 3% from Mets-Royals in 2015 (10.5), but the third-highest Game 1 overnight since 2010.
The Dodgers’ win earned a lower overnight than any of last year’s seven World Series games, no surprise given the Cubs’ presence. Outside of that series, it earned the third-highest overnight for a non-clinching World Series game since 2010 — behind Game 1 in 2015 and Red Sox-Cardinals Game 4 in 2013 (10.5).
Locally, Game 1 had a 28.6 rating in Houston, down 21% from the Astros’ previous World Series opener against the White Sox in 2005 (36.0). Los Angeles turned in a 24.2, down 10% from the market’s previous World Series Game 1, Giants-Angels in 2002 (26.9). Compared to L.A.’s other pro sports teams, the Kings’ 2014 Stanley Cup Final opener had a 7.1 rating and the Lakers’ 2010 NBA Finals opener had a 25.2.
