TNT NBA ratings fell Thursday night, the NHL got a Wednesday night bump on NBCSN, Formula 1 viewership continued to rise, and NBC led another Premier League weekend.
TNT NBA Ratings Down Thursday
Thursday’s NBA on TNT doubleheader — Warriors-Spurs and Lakers-Blazers — averaged 1.8 million viewers, down 37% from last year (BOS-CLE, OKC-GS: 3.0M) but up 37% from 2015 (OKC-CHI, MEM-POR: 1.4M). Individually, Warriors-Spurs had a 1.3 (-4%) and 2.0 million (-12%) and Lakers-Blazers a 1.2 (-45%) and 1.8 million (-53%).
On ESPN the previous night, Rockets-Knicks had a 0.6 (+4%) and 826,000 (+2%) and Mavericks-Clippers a 0.45 (-24%) and 668,000 (-29%). Both this year and last, ESPN’s coverage aired opposite Game 7 of the World Series.
NHL Gets Wednesday Night Bump on NBCSN
Flyers-Blackhawks earned 358,000 viewers on NBCSN’s NHL Wednesday Night Rivalry earlier this week, up 34% from Red Wings-Flyers last year (267K) but down 37% from Blues-Blackhawks in 2015 (572K). The Predators-Sharks nightcap had 126,000.
F1 Continues Upward Trend in Lame Duck Year
The Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix, the final F1 race on the NBC broadcast network, delivered a 0.53 rating and 825,000 viewers last Sunday — flat in ratings and up 2% in viewership from last year (0.53, 805K) and up 10% and 14% respectively from 2015 (0.48, 722K). Of the 17 F1 races that can be compared to last season, 14 have posted an increase.
EPL Week 10 Ratings: NBC Leads
NBC scored a 0.47 rating and 710,000 for Premier League coverage last weekend, but it was not immediately clear whether those figures were for Leicester City-Everton last Sunday or Bournemouth-Chelsesa last Saturday — or both. ShowBuzz Daily lists the same numbers for both games, which is possible but very unusual.
On NBCSN Saturday morning, Manchester United-Tottenham had a 0.23 (+28%) and 327,000 (+18%) and West Brom-Manchester City a 0.20 (-23%) and 329,000 (-16%).
