NASCAR scored a rare ratings win in Las Vegas.
Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race from Las Vegas delivered a 3.0 rating and 5.12 million viewers on FOX, up 3% in ratings and 8% in viewership from last year (2.9, 4.73M), but down 17% and 14% respectively from 2017 (3.6, 5.97M).
Joey Logano‘s win snapped a streak of three straight declines for the Las Vegas race, which last posted an increase in 2015.
Under the current television deal that began in 2015, it was just the 25th of 132 races to post an increase in both ratings and viewership.
The results were a marked turnaround from the previous two weeks, which saw Daytona and Atlanta tie ratings lows.
Last season, it took until Michigan in June before NASCAR scored its first increase of the season.
Even with the increase, it topped only last year as the lowest rated edition of the race (dates back to 1998) and the least-watched since at least 2001.
Greensboro, N.C., led all markets with a 10.9 rating, followed by Greenville, S.C. (8.0), Charlotte (7.4), Richmond (7.3) and Indianapolis (7.2).
NASCAR was the top sporting event of the weekend, finishing comfortably ahead of the competing PGA Tour Honda Classic on NBC (2.4, 3.80M). It ranked second in adults 18-49 (1.0), behind the previous night’s Warriors-Sixers NBA game on ABC (1.1).
