Just over a month after his firing from ESPN, Adnan Virk has a new gig. Also: a promotion for Tedy Bruschi, more exposure for the AAF, and a new option for NBA League Pass.
Virk joins DAZN, decides against taking ESPN to court
Former ESPN broadcaster Adnan Virk, who was fired by the network last month for reportedly leaking internal information to reporters, has joined the streaming platform DAZN as an MLB studio host, it was announced Thursday. Virk will host ChangeUp, a nightly MLB whiparound show that was first announced last year. In moving to DAZN, he is reuniting with his former ESPN boss John Skipper, who is executive chairman of DAZN parent company Perform Group.
In related news, Virk has opted not to pursue legal action against ESPN. The New York Post reported Thursday that Virk and ESPN came to an agreement in which he would receive none of the money remaining on his contract. [DAZN PR 3.15, NYP 3.15]
Bruschi moving up to Sunday NFL Countdown
ESPN NFL analyst Tedy Bruschi is joining the network’s Sunday NFL Countdown studio show, the New York Post reported Friday. Bruschi fills the vacancy left by Charles Woodson, who was dropped from Countdown last month. While the Post reported the move as a done deal, The Big Lead reported Friday that Bruschi was merely likely to join Countdown. [NYP 3.15, The Big Lead 3.15]
CBS adds pair of AAF games
CBS has added a pair of Alliance of American Football League games, the league announced Thursday. The network will carry Memphis-San Antonio on April 6, leading into its coverage of the NCAA Tournament Final Four, as well as a conference championship game on April 21. CBS, which aired the inaugural AAF telecast on February 9, was not scheduled to air any more games until the championship game.
The two additional games on CBS come on the heels of TNT adding two games to its schedule. All told, TNT and CBS will end up having aired eight AAF games, compared to four under the original schedule. [AAF 3.14]
NBA offering ten minute League Pass option
Starting Saturday, the NBA will begin selling ten minute access to NBA League Pass for $1. Subscribers can watch any game taking place during the ten minute window. The league already sells access to the fourth quarters of single games for $2, the second halves of games for $3, and the final three quarters for $5. [NBA]
