Copa America final down big from ’16, up big from ’15
Sunday’s Brazil-Peru Copa America final averaged 2.7 million viewers on Telemundo, down 56% from Chile-Argentina on Univision in 2016, which aired in primetime (6.19M), but up 170% from Argentina-Chile on beIN Sport Espanol in 2015 (1.0M). Including streaming, the match had 3.1 million.
The full tournament averaged 1.2 million viewers on Telemundo (including streaming), down 59% from the TV-only average in 2016 (2.9M), but twice-as-high as 2015 on beIN.
Record audience for Zion’s Summer League debut
Last Friday’s Pelicans-Knicks NBA Summer League game averaged a 1.0 rating and 1.61 million viewers on ESPN, up 210% in ratings and 243% in viewership from the same window last year (Mavericks-Suns: 0.33, 470K), and up 85% and 84% respectively from 2017 (Clippers-Lakers: 0.55, 879K).
The earthquake-shortened game, which marked the NBA debut of #1 overall pick Zion Williamson, delivered the largest Summer League audience on record. The previous high was 1.1 million for Celtics-Lakers in 2017.
Lakers-Bulls had a 0.6 (+75%) and 883,000 (+87%) earlier in the night, ranking as the third-most watched Summer League game on record.

The England-Sweden FIFA Women’s World Cup third-place match averaged a 1.3 rating and 1.99 million viewers on FOX, down a tick in ratings and 20% in viewership from Germany-England in 2015, which aired in a later timeslot and on the July 4 holiday (1.4, 2.48M). Figures include pre-match coverage.
As previously noted, viewership for the Women’s World Cup declined 9% on Fox Sports, though non-U.S. matches increased 19%.
