His day job on ice indefinitely, Turner’s Charles Barkley will still get to do some TV analysis in the month of May.
Turner Sports basketball analyst Charles Barkley will serve as an analyst for the next Tiger Woods/Phil Mickelson match on May 24, working alongside Trevor Immelman and play-by-play voice Brian Anderson, it was announced Thursday. It was not immediately known whether the announcers will be on site, working in a studio, or working from their homes.
Barkley was a pre-match analyst for the previous edition of “The Match” in 2018. With the NCAA Tournament canceled and the NBA season suspended, he has not worked in his usual capacity as a TV analyst since March 5, not counting a phone appearance on an Inside the NBA special the following week.
Also working the event will be on-course reporters Amanda Balionis and Justin Thomas.
Barkley is no stranger to golf, or Woods, with whom he once had a well-documented friendship.
The Woods/Mickelson match — in which the longtime rivals will be paired up with Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, respectively — is scheduled to air on TNT, TBS, TruTV and HLN. Turner will precede the match with a one-hour pregame on Bleacher Report, with Adam Lefkoe hosting.
