Incoming Knicks play-by-play voice Spero Dedes was arrested on DWI charges over the weekend.
Dedes was charged with DWI early Sunday morning in Southampton, NY, after police believed he was intoxicated during a traffic stop.
Citing “inconsistencies with the police allegations and what actually transpired that night” (nypost.com, 7/6), Dedes’ attorney says he expects “complete dismissal of the charges” (southampton.patch.com, 7/6).
The arrest comes just weeks after Dedes was reportedly named the new radio play-by-play voice of the New York Knicks.
The Knicks have not yet confirmed Dedes’ hiring, and the New York Post says Madison Square Garden officials did not return phone calls related to the incident. However, Dedes’ attorney “said he does not think the arrest will affect Dedes’ new job” (southampton.patch.com, 7/6).
Dedes recently left his job as the Lakers’ radio play-by-play voice, and currently serves as an NFL and college basketball voice for CBS.
