ABC earned good numbers for last week’s college football tripleheader.
Last Saturday’s #2 LSU/#16 West Virginia college football game earned a 4.1 final rating and 6.503 million viewers on ABC, up 21% in ratings and 16% in viewership from last year (ORST/BSU: 3.4, 5.587M), and up 3% and 2%, respectively, from 2009 (IOWA/PSU: 4.0, 6.387M).
Despite the increase, LSU’s victory ranks as the least-viewed Saturday Night Football telecast of the season (three telecasts).
Earlier in the day, regional action featuring #8 Oklahoma State against #8 Texas A&M earned a 3.4 and 5.301 million viewers, up 36% in ratings and 40% in viewership from last year (UCLA/TEX*: 2.5, 3.787M), but down 13% in both measures compared to 2009 (MIA/VT*: 3.9, 6.114M).
The telecast ranks as the season’s second-most viewed afternoon window on ABC (six telecasts).
The first game of the tripleheader, Notre Dame/Pittsburgh, drew a 3.1 and 4.322 million viewers. ABC did not air a game in the comparable timeslot last year.
