Even airing opposite other playoff action, Tuesday’s Game 4 of the Yankees/Tigers series was the most-viewed MLB Division Series game in four years.
Game 4 between the Yankees and Tigers earned a 4.6 U.S. rating and 7.012 million viewers on TBS Tuesday night, up 64% in ratings and 51% in viewership from the comparable game on the fifth day of last year’s postseason (PHI/CIN G3: 2.8, 4.653M), and up 12% and 3%, respectively, from 2009 (NYY/MIN G3: 4.1, 6.791M).
The 2010 and 2009 games aired on Sunday night. Versus the comparable Tuesday night game last year (TEX/TB G5: 4.1, 6.410), Game 4 was up 12% in ratings and 9% in viewership.
The Yankees’ series-tying win ranks as the highest rated, most-viewed MLB Division Series game since Indians/Yankees Game 4 in 2007 (5.9, 9.232M).
Keep in mind Tuesday’s game overlapped with Brewers/Diamondbacks Game 3 on TNT from 9:30 PM-12:00 AM. Combined, TBS and TNT earned a 5.7 rating and 9.065 million viewers during that time period.
Locally, the game drew a 22.7 rating in Detroit (down 9% from Game 3) and a 15.2 in New York (up 15% from Game 3).
