Overnight ratings continue to drop for NASCAR’s spring Talladega race.
NASCAR Sprint Cup racing from Talladega drew a 3.8 overnight rating on FOX Sunday afternoon, down 5% from last year (4.0), down 14% from 2013 (4.4), and the lowest overnight for the spring Talladega race since at least 1998 (excludes rainouts). The previous low was last year’s 4.0.
Overnights have now been the lowest over that span in each of the past three years.
Despite the lower numbers, NASCAR on FOX tied the weekend’s second-highest overnight for any sporting event on broadcast. The 3.8 matched a Grizzlies/Warriors NBA playoff game on ABC and trailed only the Kentucky Derby on NBC (10.8). Keep in mind two of the weekend’s major sporting events — the Spurs/Clippers playoff game on TNT and the Floyd Mayweather/Manny Pacquiao boxing fight on pay-per-view — did not air on broadcast.
The 3.8 also ranks as the top NASCAR overnight since Fontana in March (4.0), with the caveat that two of the four races since were postponed and a third aired on Fox Sports 1.
