Overnight (metered market) ratings by timeslot.
12:00 PM – 2:30 PM Sunday.
1.2/3: Sony Ericsson Open on CBS, Canas/Djokovic
1.0/3: NHL on NBC, Red Wings/Blue Jackets
- Back to reality: after a week of celebrating a ratings win against the NBA, the NHL on NBC gets outdrawn by a tennis match on CBS featuring unknowns Guillermo Canas and Novak Djokovic.
2:30 PM – 7:00 PM Sunday.
4.9/11: NASCAR on FOX, Goody’s Cool Orange 500
3.0: NBA on ABC, Mavericks/Suns
2.3: NBA on ABC, Heat/Pistons
1.9/4: PGA Tour on NBC, Shell Houston Open
- Mavericks/Suns drew a 3.0, the highest overnight rating on ABC since Lakers/Cavaliers drew a 3.1 on February 11. The rating is up 11% over last year’s Rockets/Lakers game. Meanwhile, Heat/Pistons drew a 2.3, only 5% higher than last year’s Suns/Pistons game. One would have expected that a doubleheader with that many big names would have drawn larger numbers (Pacers/Pistons and Spurs/Lakers on the comparable date in 2004 featured two of the top teams in each conference, and drew overnight ratings of 3.1 and 4.3, respectively), but considering recent numbers on ABC, 2.3 and 3.0 are decent.
- The Shell Houston Open wasn’t much of a draw for NBC; the final round drew a 1.9, 24% lower than the 2.5 for last year’s comparable event. This was the first Sunday in many weeks that the PGA Tour drew lower ratings than the NBA game it aired against.
- NASCAR ratings were down 4% from last year, from a 5.1 in ’06 to a 4.9. Despite the 5.1 overnight, last year’s race finished with a 6.2 rating. Expect a similar result for this year’s race.
Saturday ratings.
9.5/17: NCAA Tournament on CBS, Florida/UCLA
9.0/19: NCAA Tournament on CBS, Georgetown/Ohio State
1.4/4: NASCAR on FOX, Craftsman Truck Series Kroger 500
- Florida/UCLA drew a 9.5, up 12% from an 8.5 for UCLA/LSU in the same timeslot last year. Meanwhile, Georgetown/Ohio State was down 5% from George Mason/Florida in 2006.
