CBS will be the broadcast home of the Southeastern Conference for the next fifteen years.
The SEC and CBS have agreed to a fifteen year extension that will have football and men’s basketball games airing on the network through 2025. The deal, set to begin with the 2009-10 season, will resemble the previous deal in terms of television coverage; during the football season, CBS will continue airing a Game of the Week, with the option to air doubleheaders and prime time games.
Some new wrinkles include a host of digital rights, and the option for CBS College Sports Network to simulcast games televised by CBS. Additionally, CBS will have the first pick of SEC games each week, as opposed to previous years, when the network would alternate with ESPN.
The SEC is expected to sign a new cable deal with ESPN “in the upcoming weeks“, with the idea of a new, SEC-owned channel now “considered a long shot.
