What do Barack Obama, Bill Walton and Mount Rushmore have in common? All three will be involved in special segments on SportsCenter over the next three days.
On Sunday, ESPN will begin accepting fan submissions for a new segment called the Mt. Rushmore of Sports. The segment will feature sports fans “[identifying] the top three sports greats in each state/region,” with a panel of sportswriters selecting the fourth. The goal of the series will be to eventually select the state or region with the “most impressive collection of sports luminaries worthy of being etched in the state?s Mount Rushmore of sports.”
The bizarre combination of 50 States in 50 Days, Titletown and Who’s Now will be hosted by Rick Reilly.
Monday, ESPN will recognize the 35th anniversary of Notre Dame’s win over UCLA in 1974, which snapped the Bruins’ 88 game winning streak. Bill Walton and Digger Phelps will join Robert Flores and Chris McKendry during a live edition of SportsCenter to discuss the game.
Finally, ESPN will provide live coverage of President-Elect Barack Obama‘s inauguration on Tuesday. Reporter Jeremy Schaap will provide coverage from the U.S. Capitol at 11:30 AM, during a live edition of SportsCenter.
All day on Tuesday, ESPN will be airing a series of vignettes titled “Realizing The Dream”, in which “sports figures talk about what Barack Obama and his election means to them.”
