MLB Network has landed its biggest name yet.
Longtime NBC and HBO studio host Bob Costas has signed a multi-year deal to join MLB Network effective immediately. Costas will host a new one-hour studio show called MLB Network Studio 42 with Bob Costas, as well as “special original programming.” Most notably, Costas will serve as the lead play-by-play man on “a select number of MLB Network?s slate of 26 live regular season games.”
Costas has not regularly done play-by-play for Major League Baseball games since NBC lost the rights to MLB in 2000.
MLB Network will be “the exclusive cable home” of Costas, who will leave HBO as part of the deal. Costas will remain on NBC, where he hosts the network’s NFL and Olympics coverage.
