Opposite NBC’s Super Bowl Pre Game Show, ABC drew decent numbers for NBA coverage.
The Cavaliers’ win over the Pistons drew a 2.3/5 overnight rating on ABC Sunday afternoon, up 15% from a 2.0 for Mavericks/Pistons in ’08, and the highest overnight for an NBA game on Super Bowl Sunday since Lakers/Rockets drew a 2.4 in ’05.
Not surprisingly, the game was swamped in the ratings by the Super Bowl Pre-Game Show on NBC. The 2:30-5 PM portion of NBC’s pregame averaged a 7.4 overnight rating, beating Cavaliers/Pistons by 222%.
The game did manage to draw the highest non-NFL overnight rating of the weekend, beating the final round PGA Tour FBR Open by 53% head-to-head.
