Univision scored with coverage of USA/Mexico on Wednesday.
The World Cup Qualifying Match between USA and Mexico drew 5.9 million viewers on Univision from 7-9:11 PM Wednesday, making the match “the most watched sportscast season-to-date on Spanish-language TV.”
The 5.9 million viewers is a 15% increase from last year’s friendly between USA and Mexico.
During the match, Univision was the top television network in total viewers in four of the top ten television markets: Los Angeles (#2), Dallas (#5), San Francisco (#6) and Houston (#10). In several markets, including the top three (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago), Univision outdrew ESPN2’s coverage of the match.
USA/Mexico also outdrew the night’s other marquee sporting event. The 5.9 million viewers for the match was 79% higher than the 3.3 million for North Carolina/Duke on ESPN, which aired later in the night. Keep in mind that Univision is a broadcast network, as opposed to cable network ESPN.
