Weekend ratings.

Basketball

• The 3.4 overnight rating for North Carolina’s win over Duke on Sunday was up 183% from last year’s comparable Purdue/Michigan game, and up 13% from the last Duke/UNC game to air on CBS. The 3.4 also marks the highest overnight rating for a regular season college basketball game on CBS since 2005, when another Duke/North Carolina tilt drew a 3.9.
• CBS’ college basketball tripleheader on Saturday drew mixed results. The 1.7 overnight for the big Connecticut/Pittsburgh showdown was off 11% from a 1.9 for Louisville/Georgeown last year. Meanwhile, the 1.7 for regional coverage in the 2 PM window was even with last year’s Stanford/USC tilt. Finally, the 1.5 for the Texas/Kansas nightcap was up 7% from a 1.4 for Kansas/Texas A&M last year.
• Opposite Duke/North Carolina, the NBA on ABC spiraled to its lowest overnight rating of the season. The 2.0 for the Spurs’ win over the lowly Suns was off 23% from a 2.6 for the same matchup in ’08.

Auto racing.

• The 4.7 overnight for the Kobalt Tools 500 marks a 16% decline from a 5.6 for last year’s race, and is the lowest overnight of the season so far for a NASCAR race.

Golf.

• Even compared to a tournament that did not feature Tiger Woods, ratings fell for yet another PGA Tour event on broadcast. The final round of the Honda Classic drew a 1.8 overnight rating on Sunday, down 25% from a 2.4 for last year’s final round. The 1.4 for third round coverage on Saturday was off by a more modest 18%.

Other.

• The 1.0 overnight for Bruins/Rangers on NBC Sunday is flat compared to last year’s Penguins/Capitals tilt.
