One of the biggest names in sports broadcasting history has called it a career.
NBC NFL analyst John Madden, who has served as a lead NFL analyst for all four broadcast networks during his career, has retired from broadcasting. Madden had been the lead analyst for NBC’s Sunday Night Football since 2006.
Madden, in a statement released by NBC:
Madden’s retirement leaves NBC without arguably its biggest name. Cris Collinsworth will replace Madden in the booth this season.
NBC Sports Chairman Dick Ebersol spent Wednesday at Madden’s home, “[trying] every way I could to make sure he was sure about his decision. And in true John Madden fashion, he was sure.”
Madden’s final game came last February, when NBC televised Super Bowl XLIII.
