The Stanley Cup Playoffs are a big hit in several big markets.
Several NHL teams have seen big increases and record ratings for coverage of the ongoing 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs. In Boston, the Bruins’ Game 1 victory over the Canadiens drew a 9.4 rating on NESN, the third-highest rated Bruins game in the history of the network.
The Blackhawks had similar results in Chicago, where their Game 1 win over the Flames scored a 4.45 rating on CSN Chicago, the highest rating ever for a Blackhawks game on the net, and the highest rated Blackhawks playoff game since ’94.
While Boston and Chicago are seeing an NHL ratings renaissance, Pittsburgh has always been a strong hockey market. The Penguins’ Game 1 win over the Flyers drew a 14.7 rating on FS Pittsburgh Wednesday, the ninth-highest rated Penguins playoff game ever.
Elsewhere, the Capitals’ Game 1 loss to the Rangers on Wednesday drew a 3.3 rating on CSN in Washington, up 43% from a 2.3 for last year’s comparable Capitals/Flyers Game 1.
