The Stanley Cup Playoffs continue to be a big hit in local markets.
The Blackhawks, Capitals and Penguins are just three of the teams that have seen strong ratings locally during the 2009 postseason.
Monday’s Canucks/Blackhawks Game 6, which saw Chicago advance to the West Finals, drew a 7.82 rating on Comcast SportsNet Chicago, the highest rating ever for a Blackhawks game on the net. Ratings peaked at a 12.6 from 10:30-10:45 PM CT. Overall, CSN Chicago averaged a 4.82 rating for ten Blackhawks playoff games, up 150% from a 1.93 for four telecasts during the team’s 2002 playoff run.
Meanwhile, Penguins/Capitals continues to draw astronomical ratings in Pittsburgh and decent ratings in Washington. Monday’s Game 6 drew a 24.2 rating in Pittsburgh, topping a 21.4 for Saturday’s Game 5 as the highest rated Penguins telecast ever on FSN Pittsburgh and the highest rated NHL game ever on any RSN.
Game 6 drew a 5.3 in Washington, the second-highest rating for a Capitals’ playoff game on CSN, behind only a 5.6 for Flyers/Capitals Game 7 last year. For the series, Penguins/Capitals is averaging a 4.4 rating in Washington.
