The trend of lower ratings for NASCAR races continued on TNT Sunday.
The Pocono 500, the first NASCAR race of the season on TNT, drew a 3.4 U.S. rating and 5.5 million viewers on TNT Sunday afternoon, down 13% and 10%, respectively, from a 3.9 and 6.1 for last year’s race, but up 13% and 10%, respectively, from a 3.0 and 5 million for the ’07 race.
So far this season, 14 NASCAR races have averaged a 4.9 rating on FOX and TNT, down 13% from a 5.6 last year. Excluding the Coca Cola 600, which was delayed due to rain, races have averaged a 5.0 rating, down 12% from a 5.7 for the comparable races last year.
Every single NASCAR Sprint Cup telecast in 2009 has drawn declining ratings.
