NASCAR did not impress in its return to broadcast television.
Saturday’s Chevy Rock & Roll 400 drew a mere 3.0 overnight rating on ABC, down 27% from a 4.1 in ’07. Last year’s race was postponed to Sunday and aired on ESPN.
This marks the lowest overnight rating for a NASCAR race on broadcast since last year’s Tums QuikPak 500 drew a 2.9.
NASCAR finished in the middle of the pack among its broadcast sports competition, falling behind the NFL, college football and even the Federer/Djokovic U.S. Open men’s semifinal.
