Steve Phillips‘ career with ESPN is over.
Less than a week after news surfaced that Phillips was involved in an affair with an ESPN production assistant, ESPN has announced that the MLB analyst will no longer work for the network.
An ESPN statement noted that Phillips’ “ability to be an effective representative for ESPN has been significantly and irreparably damaged.”
Phillips, who joined ESPN in 2005, had been on the rise in recent years. During the 2009 season, he served as an analyst on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball and Monday Night Baseball, in addition to his contributions to Baseball Tonight.
Phillips’ firing comes just over three years after Baseball Tonight analyst Harold Reynolds was fired from ESPN for sexual harassment.
