A day after firing Steve Phillips, ESPN has doled out punishment to another one of its analysts.
ESPN college football analyst Bob Griese has been suspended one game for a comment made about NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya. During Saturday’s Ohio State/Minnesota game, Griese joked that Montoya was “out having a taco,” after a fellow analyst wondered where the Colombian-born driver was on the Sprint Cup standings.
Griese apologized at the end of the game, and made a second apology later in the day.
Montoya said he did not know who Griese was, and that he “[doesn’t] really care to tell you the truth.” Montoya: “I could say I spent the last three hours eating tacos, but I was actually driving the car.”
