For the third straight week, NASCAR on ABC drew less than a 3.0 overnight rating.
Sunday’s Price Chopper 400 drew a mere 2.6 overnight on ABC, down 16% from a 3.1 last year, down 7% from a 2.8 in ’07, and the lowest overnight rating in the 8-year history of the race. Since drawing a 4.0 overnight in ’06, overnight ratings for the Price Chopper 400 have declined 30%.
The 2.6 overnight ranks as the second-lowest overnight ever for a Chase for the Cup race on broadcast television — ahead of only a 2.5 for the Sylvania 300 in September.
Through Sunday, ABC is averaging a 2.6 overnight for three Chase for the Cup races, down 13% from a 3.0 through the same point last year.
