Nothing is certain but death, taxes and lower ratings for NASCAR.
Sunday’s Tums Fast Relief 500 drew a 2.5 overnight rating on ABC, down 14% from a 2.9 for last year’s race, down 24% from a 3.3 in ’07, and the lowest overnight ever for the race since it moved to broadcast in ’02.
Overnight ratings for the Tums Fast Relief 500 have declined every year since ’04; overall, since ’04, overnight ratings for the race have declined 38% (4.0 to 2.5).
The 2.5 overnight is tied as the lowest overnight rating ever for a Chase for the Cup race on broadcast. So far this season, four of ABC’s seven NASCAR telecasts have drawn less than a 3.0 overnight.
