Despite a big increase in ratings, NBC still hit a season-low for Sunday Night Football.
Sunday’s Cardinals/Giants game drew a 9.1/15 rating and 15 million viewers on NBC, up 44% in ratings and 50%, respectively, from a 6.3/10 and 10 million for Seahawks/Buccaneers in Week 7 last year.
Cardinals/Giants lost head-to-head to Game 6 of the Angels/Yankees ALCS on FOX (9.3, 15.5 mil). However, the disparity was much smaller than last year, when Game 7 of Red Sox/Rays topped Seahawks/Buccaneers by 25% in ratings and 34% in viewership.
In the key adults 18-49 demographic, Cardinals/Giants topped Angels/Yankees by 14% (5.9 to 5.2).
Additionally, the 9.1 is the second-highest rating ever for NBC Sunday Night Football opposite the MLB League Championship Series. Overall, two SNF telecasts opposite the LCS averaged a 10.0 rating, up 39% from a 7.2 for two games opposite the LCS last year.
Through Week 7, NBC is averaging 19.1 million viewers for Sunday Night Football, 20% from 15.9 million through the same point last year, and NBC’s highest average through Week 7 of the season since the net began airing Sunday night games in ’06.
