Through two games, ratings and viewership are up significantly for the 2009 WNBA Finals.
Entering Sunday’s Game 3, ESPN2 is averaging a 0.36 U.S. rating (0.4 cable) and 531,000 viewers for the Fever/Mercury series, up 50% in ratings and 55% in viewers compared to the first two games of last year’s Shock/Silver Stars series (0.24 U.S., 0.3 cable, 331,000 viewers).
Game 2 on Thursday night drew a 0.35 U.S. rating.
While the WNBA Finals is not a ratings powerhouse by any stretch, the series is putting in above average numbers for ESPN2. Games 1 and 2 averaged 410,000 households — 4% higher than the 396,000 households ESPN2 averaged during the month of September, and 41% higher than the 290,000 households the net averaged for the entire Third Quarter.
