ABC drew fairly solid numbers for its NBA doubleheader on Sunday.
Sunday’s Celtics/Nuggets game drew a 2.7 overnight rating on ABC, flat compared to Celtics/Suns on the comparable date last year, and up 13% from Pistons/Suns two years ago — both of which began one hour earlier.
Earlier in the day, the marquee Cavaliers/Magic matchup drew a 2.5 overnight. There was no game on the comparable date last year.
Compared to the only other 1 PM game on ABC this season (Nuggets/Spurs, 1/31/10), Cavaliers/Magic was up 19% from a 2.1.
Both games aired opposite the Winter Olympics on NBC. The last time ABC aired NBA coverage opposite the Winter Games, the network drew a 2.6 overnight for regional action featuring Spurs/Pacers, and a 3.1 for Pistons/Heat.
