On a weekend where Tiger Woods‘ off-the-course problems were the big story, ratings cratered for the Accenture Match Play Championship.
The finals of the Accenture Match Play Championship drew just a 1.3 overnight rating on CBS Sunday, down 35% from last year (2.0), and down 63% from 2008 (3.5) — the last year Woods won the event.
The 1.3 overnight rating is the lowest ever for the final of the Accenture Match Play Championship. The previous low was a 1.5 in 2001.
To put the numbers in perspective, this event drew a 5.9 overnight rating as recently as 2003.
Keep in mind coverage aired opposite the Winter Olympics on NBC. Final round coverage in ’06, which aired on the final day of the Turin Olympics, drew a 2.4 overnight.
Coverage of the semifinals on Saturday drew a 1.0 overnight, down 41% from last year (1.7), and down 69% from 2008 (3.2).
