NHL coverage drew relatively good numbers on NBC over the weekend.
Sunday’s Red Wings/Penguins game drew a 1.0 final rating and 1.4 million viewers on NBC, flat in ratings but down 18% in viewership from Penguins/Flyers the previous week (1.0, 1.7 mil).
There was no game on the comparable date last year.
Compared to NBC’s fourth NHL telecast last season (Rangers/Flyers, 2/15/09), Sunday’s game was up 43% in ratings from a 0.7.
Excluding the Winter Classic, this is the second time this season that NBC has drawn at least a 1.0 rating. To put that in perspective, the NHL on NBC had drawn a rating of 1.0 or higher only once during the previous two seasons (again, excluding the Winter Classic).
