A record audience tuned in to watch the end of the Capitals’ season.
Wednesday’s Canadiens/Capitals Game 7 — won by the #8 seed Canadiens to clinch a series in which they once trailed three games to one — drew an 8.1 rating on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic.
The 8.1 is easily the highest rating ever for a Capitals game on CSN Mid-Atlantic, topping the previous record of 5.8 set by a Canadiens/Capitals regular season game earlier this year.
Ratings for Game 7 peaked at a 10.6 during the third period of the game.
Five games of the Canadiens/Capitals series rank among the 10 most-viewed Capitals telecasts ever on CSN, the lone exceptions being Game 2 (4.4) and Game 5 (3.8).
Including the aforementioned Canadiens/Capitals regular season game, six of the most-viewed Capitals games ever on CSN have taken place in the last three months.
Overall, the Canadiens/Capitals series averaged a 5.3 rating on CSN Mid-Atlantic, up 77% from the Rangers/Capitals first round series last year (3.0), and the most-viewed Capitals playoff series ever on the network.
The previous record was set by last year’s Penguins/Capitals second round series, which averaged a 4.7 on CSN Mid-Atlantic.
