The top seeds in the Stanley Cup Playoffs are attracting big numbers locally.
The Capitals’ first round series against the Canadiens is averaging a 5.0 rating on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, up 79% from the first four games of Capitals/Rangers last year (2.8), and up 67% from Capitals/Flyers in ’08 (3.0).
Wednesday’s Captials/Canadiens Game 4 drew a 5.3 rating on CSN Mid-Atlantic, up 130% from Capitals/Rangers Game 4 last year (2.3), and up 40% from Capitals/Flyers Game 4 in ’08 (3.8).
The 5.3 rating is tied as the second-highest ever for a Capitals playoff game on CSN, behind only Penguins/Capitals Game 7 last year (5.5). The four games of the Capitals/Canadiens series rank among the 10 most viewed Capitals playoff games in CSN history.
In San Jose, the first four games of the Sharks/Avalanche series have averaged a 4.2 rating on CSN California, up 14% from the first four games of Sharks/Ducks last year (3.7).
Tuesday’s Sharks/Avalanche Game 4 drew a series-high 4.7 rating, up 27% from Sharks/Ducks Game 4 last year (3.7). With the exception of Game 1, each game in the series has been up from last year.
