After a dip for last week’s Game 1, the finale of the Blackhawks/Sharks series gave NBC some strong numbers on Sunday afternoon.
The Blackhawks’ series-clinching Game 4 win over the Sharks drew a 2.0 overnight rating on NBC Sunday, up 33% from Red Wings/Blackhawks Game 4 last year (1.5), and tied as the highest overnight for an NHL telecast on any network (excluding the Stanley Cup Final and the Winter Classic) since 2004.
Sharks/Blackhawks drew the highest overnight of any sporting event on broadcast on Sunday (keep in mind that the NBA and NASCAR were on cable this week), even topping the final round of the PGA Byron Nelson Championship (1.6).
On Saturday, Game 4 of the Flyers/Canadiens series drew a 1.6 overnight on NBC. There was no game in the comparable timeslot last year.
Saturday’s game finished comfortably ahead of the competing UEFA Champions League Final on FOX, which drew a 1.1 overnight.
