Though Tiger Woods‘ absence likely left CBS TV executives feeling helpless and stupefied, overnight ratings still held up fairly well for the Quail Hollow Championship.
Final round coverage of Rory McIlroy‘s victory at the Quail Hollow Championship drew a 2.8 overnight rating on CBS Sunday, down 32% from last year (4.1), up 56% from 2008 (1.8), and down 26% from 2007 (3.8).
Excluding 2006, when final round coverage aired on tape delay due to weather, the 2.8 overnight is the third-lowest in the eight-year history of the tournament.
The final round outdrew Bucks/Hawks Game 7 on ABC (2.7), but was trounced head-to-head by Jazz/Lakers Game 1 (4.7).
Saturday’s third round coverage drew a 1.5 overnight, up 7% from 2008 (1.4), but down 38% from 2007 (2.4). Last year’s third round overnight was not immediately available.
