It has not been a particularly good season for baseball on FOX in the ratings department. Luckily, neither was last year.
Regional MLB action featuring Rays/Rangers drew 1.4 final rating on FOX last Saturday, down 7% from coverage featuring Phillies/Dodgers last year (1.5), and down 30% from 2008 (2.0).
This marks the fifth time in nine telecasts that ratings have declined for baseball on FOX — and the sixth time that ratings have dipped below a 2.0.
That said, things were worse at the same point last season, when six of the first nine telecasts were down from the previous year, and eight failed to draw a 2.0.
Three telecasts this season have failed to draw even a 1.5 rating; none of the first nine last year could share that distinction.
So far this season, FOX is averaging a 1.9 rating for MLB coverage, even with last year.
