The first tournament of the PGA Tour FedEx Cup had a double-digit decline in ratings on both Saturday and Sunday.
Final round coverage of The Barclays drew a 2.1 final rating and 2.929 million viewers on CBS, down 34% in ratings and 37% in viewership from last year (3.2, 4.641 mil).
Though down from last year, the 2.1 rating is up 24% from 2008 (1.7) and even with 2007 (2.1). Overall, the 2.1 is tied as the second-highest rating for the final round of The Barclays since 2004 — though it is also tied as the fifth-lowest since at least 1996.
This marks the highest rated golf telecast on broadcast (excludes majors) since the final round of The Memorial in June (2.8), and just the ninth of 56 non-major telecasts this season to draw at least a 2.0 rating.
Third round coverage on Saturday drew a 1.7 final rating and 2.373 million viewers, down 11% and 14%, respectively, from last year (1.9, 2.748 mil). The telecast drew the highest rating for third round coverage of a non-major since The Players Championship in May.
