Overnight ratings were mixed for Saturday’s college football doubleheader on ABC.
Saturday Night Football, featuring Missouri’s upset win over then-BCS #1 Oklahoma, drew a 4.6 overnight rating on ABC — up 28% from both last year (TX/MU*: 3.6), and 2008 (MU/TX: 3.6).
The 4.6 overnight is the third-highest of the season for a college football telecast on ABC, behind afternoon regional action on October 2 (4.8) and Saturday Night Football on September 18 (4.9).
Saturday’s telecast trailed LSU/Auburn on CBS earlier in the day (4.7).
This was the third straight week that the #1 team in the nation was defeated. One week earlier #1 Ohio State’s loss to Wisconsin drew a 4.8 overnight on ESPN; two weeks ago, #1 Alabama’s loss to South Carolina drew a 5.2 on CBS.
Earlier in the day, regional action featuring Wisconsin/Iowa drew a 3.7 overnight rating, down 16% from last year (PSU/MICH*: 4.4), and down 12% from 2008 (OSU/MSU*: 4.2).
