Viewership has increased by a quarter for the Premier League on ESPN2, capped by record numbers for Monday’s match between Manchester United and Arsenal attracting record numbers.
ESPN2 earned a 0.38 U.S. rating and 570,000 viewers for Man U’s victory over Arsenal Monday afternoon. The telecast ranks as the top Premier League telecast ever on cable in both households (438,000) and viewers.
The previous record was set by Man U/Chelsea in April (420,000 HHs, 526,000 P2+).
Four of the five most-viewed Premier League matches ever on cable have taken place in 2010.
Through 21 matches, the Premier League is averaging a 0.23 U.S. rating and 324,000 viewers on ESPN2, up 28% and 25%, respectively, from last year (0.18, 260,000).
By comparison, ESPN2 averaged 249,000 viewers for 25 regular season MLS telecasts this year.
